Untypically Jia

Jia is a twenty-something red headed housewife whose life is made up of Irish pride, a hot temper, a tendency to offend, a redneck background and southern roots. Then it’s mixed in with a smart mouthed husband and a one eyed pug.

Where do you blog?

Untypically Jia

How long have you been blogging?

Almost six years.

Why did you start blogging, and why do you keep doing it?

I started blogging because I wanted to be a voice among the people I admired. I wanted to show the world that I was the perfect little housewife.

I continue to blog because I'm totally not perfect and frankly, I think it's pretty funny. Blogging let's me be myself in a world where I felt like I constantly had to change depending on the company I occupied.

What is your blog about?

My struggle in healing through depression and obsessive compulsive disorder as well as weight issues and my determination to help others recover from low self esteem.

I also blog the funny conversations I have with my husband, how I apparently don't know how to properly use words, and my constant need to see how easily I can offend my mother in law.

There's also a link to a farting cat on my About page. *Shrug*

What is your favorite word and why? Use it in a sentence!

If I'm going to be serious, my favourite word is "Chosen". I have it tattooed on my back. I believe we are all chosen to do something great in the world. I was chosen to live while my mother died in a car accident when I was two. So I spend time spreading her story to help prevent drunk driving.

One of the things I was chosen to do.

You know what word I HATE? Moist. I also hate it when people pick at their belly buttons.

How much time do you spend blogging?

If I had a nickle for every hour I've spent blogging . . . . I'm really not very good at math.

What are some of your favorite posts?

This blog post will save lives. I'm totally not even being sarcastic. Which let's face it, is kind of a first.

I suffer from OCD, depression and general anxiety. 2010 I had a nearly complete breakdown and it took almost the whole year to recover from it. I'm not fully healed yet, scars are still there, but I realized that I can still live through my struggles.

My baby sister became a mother, and it gave me time to reflect on how the two of us have gone through so much in our lives and how we've both grown up so much…. And yet we'd still prefer to watch cartoons over the nightly news.

This is one of my favorites because people still comment on it and I even on occasion get emails and text messages about it. I thought it would be offensive to those with cancer, but I've been told by some that they agree that guacamole would be a decent substitute for chemo.

This is a story I started writing about how I met my husband. It started small and simple and grew into something that involved the destruction of my family, the discovery of religion and how people can overcome anything.

I've been following Jia's blog since 2006 or 2007. She's one of my favorite bloggers, and I've been admiring her strength through her journey for several years. I became acquainted her when I became a contributor for Modern Molly Mormon, and she's on my MUST MEET list of bloggers this year. I commend her honesty and bravery in discussing her struggles with her mental health...she's given me strength to blog about mine.

Awws . . . I ♥ your face too Nicole. And I'm super jealous that April got to hang out when she went to the Design conference.

1. I LOVE Jia's blogs. She's everything I look for in a blogger, and it's more than a little creepy how often I sing her praises...
2. My little sister ALSO hates the word "moist" and will literally jump up and leave the room if she hears it. She won't eat at BBQ places, because of the overuse of the phrase "moist towelettes"
